Music Genre

There are many music genres that create great videos that have gone down in history as the best.

POP

The first genre that is the most popular is POP, this genre has been round for many years and always produce the most well known/popular music videos.  Firstly the ‘KING of POP’ Michael Jackson has produced one of the most original videos in POP history; Thriller. This video was well known and was a very major thing when it came out as it was one of the longest music videos ever, lasting 13 minutes 43 seconds.

Hip-Hop

Another genre is Hip-Hop, this genre tends to involve a party in a house or club and cutting scenes with the artist in front of the camera looking very confident and showing off. One well know video is ‘Hot in herre’ by Nelly, the video was filmed in a club and featured the usual parts, including; Nelly turning up in a sports car, Nelly rapping in front of the camera, girls dancing etc.  

Rock

Rock is a genre that isn’t as well known and therefore does not make the charts that often. This means less video are made for this genre as it is not as popular as genre such as: R&B, POP, Hip-Hop etc. There is usually a stereotypical type of Rock band that feature in Rock music videos e.g. wearing black, has long hair, has a person playing the guitar and drums etc.

Recently I have found a couple of Music Channels that play the most popular and well known music in the UK which are the most popular songs and music videos at the current time. I also posted a new video created by Olly Murs which is part of my Artist Research, it helps widen my knowledge and give me ideas about my video I have to create.

Music Channels

MTV

MTV, originally an initialism of Music Television, is an American cable television channel based in New York City, New York that launched on Saturday, August 1, 1981. The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by television personalities known as VJs. In its early years MTV's main target demographic were young adults, but today MTV broadcasts are primarily targeted at adolescents and teenagers.

Vevo 

Vevo (stylized vevo) is a joint venture music video website operated by Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Abu Dhabi Media with EMI licensing its content to the group without taking an ownership stake. The service was launched officially on December 8, 2009. The videos on Vevo are syndicated across the web, with Google and Vevo sharing the advertising revenue.

Vevo offers music videos from three of the "big four" major record labels: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and now-defunct EMI. Warner Music Group was initially reported to be considering hosting its content on Vevo, but subsequently formed a rival alliance with MTV Networks.There are more than 50,000 videos available on Vevo.

KISS

Kiss TV is a commercial music television channel from Box Television, available on the Sky, Virgin Media and Smallworld Cable digital television platforms. The playlist predominantly consists of mainstream hip-hop, Dance and R&B.

It is based on the format of the Bauer owned London radio station Kiss 100, which started as a pirate radio station in London in 1985. Kiss TV celebrated the 20th anniversary of its launch in 2005.
